We largely unschooled our children when they were young. Science learning was done through wide, voracious reading, Science DVDs, Experiments, Explorations, Co-op classes on varied topics of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. We also learned through clubs, writing questions to the experts, attending lectures in the universities, visiting museums, zoos, nature parks, state parks and the like. Our kids also enjoyed doing couple of research projects every year, one of which they took to local/county science fair and then onto state science fair. My oldest has also won Intel Science Fair award last year, which she thoroughly enjoyed participating. We have not used any curriculum until our oldest wished to take her AP exam in Biology at age 9. Both our kids took the path of community college, university, and online classes early for higher science learning and working with mentors on their science research projects.
I have shared our journey on science learning in this blog. Science Journey, I have a story to share, Science Experiments, Ask the Scientists are few of the science based posts here that maybe of use to you. Doing Math for the sake of Math though not about sciences gives you a glimpse into the interests of my child with respect to math research.
