GERMAN LEARNING

My son has been learning German through OSU (Oklahoma State University) German Online program. He began the course as an 8yr old and thoroughly enjoyed the program. The course is self-paced with materials, worksheets, videos online, with a weekly tutoring sessions with a live German teacher to practice speaking German. This was my son's most favorite time of the course. There are quizzes, midterms and final exams which are proctored and done online. He has been very independent with this German program and has loved the experience of it. We had taken a break for a bit from German learning and now geared back to the German II program through OSU. He eventually wants to take up AP German. I think OSU is a fantastic program for an independent learning, computer savvy kid. Neither dh or I speak German, so the only way my son could learn the language is through the program like this one..and we are very happy with this one.

My daughter has shown some interest in learning conversational German because of her trip to Germany to play violin in some concerts. She did not want to go through an intense German language program, but wanted to learn the touristy version of conversational German. After some research and asking around in the email lists, the following are some of the resources I have collected. Some are conversational programs while few others go a bit more in depth in German language learning, comprehension and mastery of the language.
